Would take a lot of tending. I would also imagine more ash than it can handle.
Still need a 22” yellow

I don't think you'll be able to get enough air in there to get a good burn with the wood. I think it would be a creosote engine.

Oooops, sorry …. Your question is for WSMs … I gotta lay off the whiskey before posting.   ??? :D ;)

@Lemans , why not give it a go and report back to us with your experience.  Don't know if you don't try.

Keep in mind that the WSM is designed to be a charcoal smoker, not a stick burner.
I agree that there probably isn't enough air flow to burn sticks, but no reason not to try.
I've got Webers. 10 - WSMs, 5 - 22.5" kettles, 2 - 18.5" kettle, 2 - SJS, 2 - SJP, 4 - WGA, 1 vintage Coolie Pan

this would be an interesting thing to test. You can also use a OT base with the WSM midsection and top for more airflow.

@Lemans  Many ATC's use a small fan to excite the charcoal within the pit.   You should be able to use the same arrangement to circulate as much air as you want to keep a wood fire glowing even w/o the temp probe part of the equation ???
