KillaGrilla Heavy Duty 304 SS Flip Up Grates
« on: January 14, 2017, 01:49:58 PM »

Anyone have one of these? I am considering ordering one. They look massive.  They are described as 0.25" thick 304 stainless steel.  Made in Nolensville, Tennessee. From the picture and description, these look to be much heavier than any standard SS or even the GBS grates. The weight of one grate is 9 lbs. That is 1 lb heavier than a GBS grate.  Also, counting the fixed wires on the cooking area, there are only 17 as opposed to 24 on a GBS grate and 22 on a standard SS grate.

@addicted-to-smoke & @Travis - we had a discussion about SS grates from KillaGrilla back in June.  Appears they did not have a flip up SS grate at that time. (http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/kills-grilla-22-5'-ss-cooking-grate/msg230853/#msg230853)

Only place I could find them for sale is on Etsy.

Aren't the weber stainless grates cheaper?

Thanks for posting that, Cellar. It does look heavy duty. Only issue I have with these ss grates is the expense. If I cooked on one grill, the price would be worth it, but I cook on everything I have so flipping the grate to another kettle would be a pain... I think.
They sure do look serious.

The Weber SS grates are $72 delivered.  I have one of those, but they are not as heavy grade as the GBS grates. This one from KillaGrilla I believe is much heavier and thicker construction.

And that, in the real world makes a difference, why?

@Darko- I would think the thicker rods would equate to more heat distribution and larger grill marks. With fewer rods it would also seem easier to clean.

Don't think I could justify the cost. My stainless grates were $35 a piece and it's 304.

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy one. Sounds like it's some serious ss. I got a set of craycorts a few years back for a Christmas present. I think they run about a $100 with the lifter added. I love them, but they live on one grill so don't get used all the time. I think I would like to see how they would stand the test of time with normal cooks, maybe some vortex style cooks etc... if so, maybe keep one on the main cooker (faded black). Just my opinion. They look well made.

There has got to be a reason that Weber puts the thick SS grates on their top of the line Summit Series grills. That is why I am attracted to these KillaGrilla grates.

I found few more that might be an interest to you.

Not sure if this is same as the Grill Care. It says it is thicker than oem.

Thanks for the mention. As you guys may recall, I'd found his regular version on Nashville's craigslist and today I see he still offers it there ($67.)

If that Etsy price of $75 holds true, that strikes me as a better value, especially if it's thicker than Weber's ... and I might be able to pick it up locally (although it'd be an all-afternoon excursion for me, since I'll be about 1.5hrs from Nashville.

I'm down to one 22 grill now, so this could make sense. That said, my regular grill is Weber's GBS and like anything else, if you use it regularly, it's stays oiled and good.

Haven't been around here much. Packing a whole house by myself is breathtakingly slow. Been at it, off and on, since freaking MAY.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Guess nobody has one of these yet. Well, I pulled the trigger this morning and ordered one of these heavy duty SS grates directly from KillaGrilla. Once I receive it I will post some side by side pictures next to a GBS and standard Weber SS flip up grate.

I bought the one without flip up sides last year, and I know that thing will last forever. I actually bought the one with flip up sides last week, it actually hasn't shipped yet. I assume he's making them as they get ordered.
