A different kind of cook
« on: November 20, 2016, 12:04:03 PM »
thermometer looks a bit high

let's take a closer look.

330ish and climbing. wonder what's cooking.

let's take a peek

empty?!!???!!!?? no grates?!?!?

confused? don't be. did a pre-thanksgiving equipment check and found mold in the old wsm. hosed everything down, air dried in the sun and then fired up a full ring of royal oak lump and kbb. all vents wide open. cooking off the mold so it'll be ready for thursday.

Good thinking.  Reminds me to do my own equipment check tonight.

learned many moons ago that preparation is key. and one of the keys to preparation is your equipment check. a few minutes after i started this thread, the needle pegged off the scale. with a full ring of fuel, it'll be plenty hot for plenty long to kill off any nasties that may have been there. a quick clean out tomorrow and it'll be ready for thursday.

Now you know why the WSM Manual says that, and I quote: "Your new Weber Smokey Mountain smoker should be used every day to minimize nasties".  :)
