Now with heat deflector / dip pan which is a 1" tall x 12" round pizza pan

Showing both racks installed top one is about 4 1/4" from rim second one is 3" below that ( not sure what I'll use the second one for

Nice!
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

I think it hold pretty good, started a 5:30 pm for about 1.5 hours I kept it below 150, from that point till around 10pm I was able to hold 225-250 pretty easy not completely walking away.... I went to bed and wake up at 4:30 with it sitting at 180. Which is fine I'm sure it's not made for over nights unattended. It still had unburned coals in the morning.

For the 5 hours I watched the burn I think it worked fine, sadly when I woke up at 4:30 to head to work I was in a hurry and knew I needed to bring the base with me to work on a bottom damper handle. The pot was stuck to the base when I went to pull it off so if shook everything around and I wasn't able to get a good look at the ash at that point :(

My biggest issue with the burn was adjusting the hot bottom damper that was sticking, had to get on my knees with pliers... I wasn't going to do that again.. Lol

I believe I seen this idea of a damper handle in this forum so I don't take credit for it but thought I'd share what I built today... Hopefully it fixes my issue, used some 3/8" stainless tubing threaded one end to attach to the damper then press fit the plastic handle to the other end. And of course used tubing benders to get the shape close.

After 12 hours of burn time the ash deflector is covered.... Of course that's not normal cook for this smoker... But it did allow for pretty much of the charcoal to burn

Oh yes... First off my pot came damaged and I decided to try a straighten it instead of return. The rim was all bent up, once I got that fixed I still had to crimp the rim for the lid to fit.
