The tear drop shaped holes in the bottom don't look right either.
They sure do.  Kind of similar to the vents on the new Summit Charcoal Grill.....probably will make this grill awesome for fine tuning a slow and low cook!

Yes, the original grate is just a tad larger than the standard grill grate for an 18" kettle.
The grate should fit rather snug just above the ridge in the bowl.

I would guess that it is the same size grate that would have been used for an 18" Outrider / SJ Platinum / Jumbo Joe (older style).

Weber may still have them in stock.  Maybe give them a call to compare prices.

It is a Weber.  I have the same grill. Chopped the legs down for a table top and had to put bolts on to hang the newer food grate.
