Performer bowl question

Anyone ever "plugged" the ignition tube hole on a Performer bowl? (Other than with the tube)If so, what did you use?

Because the hole is on an arc, it won't be round.

IMO, your best bet will be a couple of stainless fender washers that have been shaped to the contour of the bowl, one inside one outside, held in place with a stainless bolt and jam nut.

The hole is an oval to points top and bottom. It would be an easy fix to plug with your hardware at the points and it would actually for to the contour of the bowl. I would use some stainless steel sheet metal (muffler band comes to mind). Inside and outside could be painted to match.

The plug will be above the charcoal grate and won't affect the ash sweeps

Great ideas by the guys above. The seal doesn't have to perfect so the fender washers will be fine. You might also be able to use a round magnet to plug it up.
