Joining the WSM club
« on: February 17, 2016, 01:37:05 PM »
The mail man just came, and look what he brought

Looking forward to using this thing. I've got a gasket kit and the cajun bandit door on the way. Going to fire up some coals tonight to burn off the factory juice all over it.

Fire that thing up nice and hot. Lots of smoke, lots of fatty chicken parts. Get it nice and seasoned. Congrats. Enjoy it.

Sadly, I won't be able to season get in until next week (I'll be it off town this weekend). But I did get her going tonight and realized how bad the door leaks, and quite a bit from the lid too.

The rubber grommet for thermometer cables is a really good feature. Running them through the vent on my kettle is a bit annoying at times.

Gasket really helped mine. I didn't really have any other problem areas.
When I got mine, I picked up a few packs of chicken quarters and let the grease and smoke do their work. When it cooled off I just chucked them in the garbage.

Congrats on your "brand new" smoker.  That's the way to get into the WSM club :)   Once you get it greased up, just sit down some morning, start up a 10 hr load of coal, add some smoke wood, and start to learn the daisy-wheel setting(s) for your usual cook temps.   My WSM can sit at 225-230 for hours (if I leave my hands off of it), you'll have fun learning your own personal smoker  ...  each one is the same and yet different.   I love it.                             SJ
"Too Beef, or Not too Beef" ...

Looking for Dark Blue MBH 22", Dark Green MBH 22", Yellow MBH 22", Glen Blue MBH 22", Avocado MBH 22".

If you are going to seal it I would not cook on it. You will have to clean/scrap any gunk off the metal for the gasket to adhere. I used my smoker for about a year before I installed the gasket. It took a lot of elbow grease and a plastic paint scraper to get the lip of the middle section perfectly clean.
