Mini WSM build
« on: January 29, 2016, 08:59:55 PM »
I got this free Smokey Joe from a friend.  After a bit of consideration, I decided to try my hand at the Mini WSM.

My son and I put it all together this evening.  I know those St. Louis guys here on the forum will appreciate it ;)

I got the IMUSA pot, and after school my son and I started drilling holes out on the bottom...I'll show the completed pics tomorrow:

Don't worry, I eventually made them MUCH bigger and put more down there.

Went to Home Depot to get the terra cotta pot to serve as heat diffuser:

Got home, marked the places for the screws, inserted the washers, screw, and nut...

Then I found a nice pic on the internet, copied it on the printer, then used an exacto knife to cut out a stencil.

Taping it on was a bit of a challenge...

Three coats of paint later, it was ready to come off:

And here's the pretty much finished product!  I'll add the rest of the pics of the interior and bottom tomorrow.

TWO WEEKS unitl pitchers and catchers report  ;D :D ;) :)

Nice!
I so have a build on tap too, just picked up the grates yesterday. Waiting for the decal to arrive...

Can't wait to see some cooks on it! Let us know about temp control too.

@GregS that's my Simpsons Smokey Joe...Been thinking of taking Homer inside as a decorative classroom piece.

I have the IMUSA pot and was thinking of doing this.  I see you drilled holes at the bottom and I was wondering were the grease goes when you are cooking.  Do you get a mess at the bottom of the pan?

I cut my bottom out and use the steamer tray as my diffuser and I can load more charcoal if I want. @BBQ Jack most people that use the Terra cotta pan foil it so clean up is easier.
