Question:  Am I like the only one who doesn't use the gas assist on their Performers? 

I just use balled up newspaper which is readily available in the bottom of my charcoal chimney.  That seems pretty quick to me.

I don't have performer I use lighter cubes or the homemade egg carton, dryer lint, and wax ones.

I got tired of having paper ash fly around the backyard when it was windy.

The only time I dont use mine is when its out of gas, no fly ash, no matches, no second try, no BS.

I love my gas assist but on my other kettles I use strick-a-fire matches under a chimney. There really thick and burn great with little ash. There like $1.20 a box.

I use mine every time. Bought a four pack of gas bottles the other day so I want run out. A trick I learned before getting the performer was to spray the newspaper with PAM before lighting, gets it going real good.

Use mine every time, I have an adapter that runs from the inlet to a full size propane tank

I use some paper towels with a bit of oil on them. I picked up this tip on WKC after dreading the ash generated from burning newspaper.

Yup.

Maybe I'll start trying it out.

I use the gas assist all the time for starting the charcoal directly in the baskets. When using a chimney i'll use the gas assist, oil in a paper towel, or a fire starter. Newspaper is too messy.

 Have a blue ss performer,purchased used, cleaned up, not used for any thing. Covered and in the shed.

I always use mine. Have lighter cubes for my other grills but use my performer and the gas assist to start chimneys regardless of which grill I'm using unless it is in use.

So I tried using it tonight....I submit....pretty easy.  How long do you run it for?

I luv that TnG  ...  start a 5min timer, fire it up, shut it down when the timer goes off (unless I'm still lighting my cigar) .                           SJ

Newspaper sucks, ash blows all around and into the garage. A paper towel dipped in vegetable oil works better. I keep a box of Weber Lighter Cubes on hand for lighting a chimney with only 12 brigs stacked up for a snake or when I run out of propane for the gas assist.
