My Rescue-Restore-Respect *** UPDATED 8/15/15 ***
« on: August 12, 2015, 06:53:29 PM »
We say Rescue-Restore-Respect and that is what this project is a project worthwhile. I bought this off of Craigslist at a steal. When I got to the house I was not sure if I wanted it  :'(. I said what the hell and bought it. It has taken a lot of work and is not yet done but I intend to get to this to my aunt and uncle sometime next week.

I hope I have it done by then.  :-\

Getting it home

Some before shots

Some after sort of  ;)

Installed all Stainless Steel hardware and polished all that could be.

So far happy with how it is turning out.

Is that a wooden bail roller? The amount of crud on the underside of the lid is classic....love it. Great work you have done cleaning that Kettle up.

Solid restore, it amazing what a little elbow grease can do to these things

A lot of elbow grease and still not done. Still need to polish the ash catcher to a mirror finish if it can be done. My buddy I just sold a red to was asking why I would buy a black grill. especially one that look like this? Now he said "never mind your aunt and uncle  bring that to my house" l was lol when I read the text.

I have had good luck with 0000 steel wool followed by Flitz metal polish.
Or you can get really shiny,  like Mikey.

@Bob BQ ... I made  them from Dowl rod to stain them I use a blowtorch and then use spray shellac on then I also put a stainless steel washer bent at the tip to deflect heat from the wood. Been doing this for a while now and it seems to work very well. I also polished stainless steel washer to a  mirror finish.

Wooden lid bale rollers …. I like your style!   A great RRR.  :D

EDIT:  I did a high-heat cook on my Performer which has been outfitted with wooden lid bale rollers.  No issues.  8)

@MacEggs ... Ya I have used them for some time high-heat and all. I myself put the Stainless washer on just to be safe and for its aesthetics. I put the mirror finish on because I like it!  8)

Excellent!  @Shoestringshop

I should have mentioned that I do have a SS washer between the bowl and wooden roller.  It's just not as big as the one you used.
It's essentially the same size as the OEM washer.
