My old 26" didn't come with an ash pan. I like this idea. If you notch the lip out you can probably get it right up underneath almost like a OTG ash pot.

Yep, been usin' them chrome bowls for years......caught all manner of waste products with them.......

You identified one of the downsides to this setup, the ash not necessarily falling in the bowl. a slightly windy day and ash is everywhere.

Indeed, that is true, I have tried this setup to get over this issue but have been challenged with getting the pan up high enough to prevent it.
