I have a medium vortex and just ordered a small, plus another medium for my dad. At $30 something bucks, it isn't cheap, but it's extremely high quality, heavy gauge stainless steel.

If you want to get one, I would recommend the small for use in the 18" and 22" - my medium is a little too big for the 18" kettle, but the small will work fine in the 22". I'm a really big fan - if you are on the fence, I think it's a worthwhile accessory.

Wondering if anyone has used the outside part of a two piece angel food cake pan as a vortex. I have a nonstick surface one that I never really use any more, and am thinking of lighting it up as a vortex.

Umm, most on here including myself are a bunch of dudes and will have to google what a 2 piece angel food cake pan looks like. [emoji12]

If it's non-stick I wouldn't use it as a charcoal holder.

Why not, what will happen?  Will the finish just burn off?

I'm no metallurgist but I'd think you would introduce toxic gases in your cooking chamber. Safer bet would be to find one made of stainless steel.

Wow, wasn't thinking about that..  I also have a plain uncoated one I could use.  I think it is aluminum. Would that be ok?

Thank you for that.  Definitely won't be  using that as a vortex.  I will look for the stainless bowl and have my hubby cut the bottom off for me.
