Do not make a boat out of either wood... it will sink.

I've helped build a concrete canoe that floats just fine.

Wood is less dense than steel, and we make battleships out of that stuff.

You are probably right.  I am novice when it comes to making boats or wood types.  My interest in wood types have peaked as I have some beautiful collection of Zav wood handles going.  I said that as a figure of speach, but literally wood sinks as it is like a rock.

Check this clip out to see how heavy these woods are.  You will know why I said that.  :) :) :)

Thanks guys! Maybe by next week, I should have the rollers and the vent tab to finish off my project " Ebony and Ivory"

Yeah, not a raft! The ebony logs are heavier than water.

Floating a boat is about displacement of water. Place a glass bowl in a tub of water and it will float, sinking into the water only to the point where the weight of the glass is equal to the weight of water displaced (by the air in the bowl, mostly).

But fill the bowl with water and it will sink to the bottom.

So you could make a boat from ebony, even though the ebony itself is heavier than water.

That's probably more physics than most people come here for, though... :)

@ haeffb -  my bad, raft not a boat is what I should have said.  :) :)

Very well explained. Even I can understand it.  :) :)

Thanks!  I got a set of brand new Fireplace handles from Darko (Thanks @ Darko) to restore my Weber Fireplace later on. I just used one of it on the Ivory minus the wood that came with it.

Taco shell comes off easy if you just want to use the stock handle strap. Taco shell is lightly pressed on to 2 bolts.  I did not use any of the stock handle assy.
