A Ranch, a couple reds and a find
« on: October 29, 2014, 10:08:58 AM »
On a tip from BBQ Medic I was able to pick up both a ranch and a red head on a recent trip to Missoula, Montana .

Here it is when I picked it up its a EI 1997 , has one spot with some paint drippings on it , other wise it's in fantastic shape

New fall lineup :)

The red head was on CL for a while so I thought since I was making the trip anyway , Id see if it was still available , it was

Also an EI 1997

On the left

The seller wanted to meet in a park , first time I've ever been asked to do that , it kind weirded me out , but I understood the seller was probably afraid of CL so I agreed .

When I got to this little park I didn't see anyone , but smack dab in the middle of this lawned open area was the Red Kettle all by itself ? It felt like a drug deal or like i was been baited by a sniper .I parked and watched and nobody approached it or me and it was exactly the scheduled time to meet , I opted to drive around the park to see if I could spot anyone and I didn't . Finally I parked and started to walk towards the grill , I saw a guy coming from the other direction and he was heading right for me and the grill , he looked looked clean cut from a distance but I was still wary of the situation being I was from out of town and uncomfortable anyway . At about 10 yards he asks if I'm Dave and together we check out the grill . I hand him the cash and he says " wait " he then reaches around behind the back of his pants and all I see come out is a flash of silver, I about shit my pants thinking he's pulling a weapon and I jump back a little " wanna buy these grill tools for 5 bucks " he says .....as he pulls out a spatula and tongs , looked to be a nice set outside of being in a mans pants , I passed .
I grab my grill and my heart off the lawn , say thank you and boogie.

The last grill is another Red Head date code L 1989 pictured  on the right

I had met a couple a while back that goes in after estate sales are done, they take everything that's left and the Red Head was left , she then had a yard sale and tried to sell it , but no takers  even at $ 20.00 , then she remembered me and called , I went over and picked up , very nice grill , I'm thrilled to have it .

I loaded up and started to drive down this alley I was in , out of the corner of my eye I see red , only 2 houses down from where I was just at , I can't believe my eyes a red MBH sitting under a roof next to another crapper grill , I can tell they haven't been used in years , I snap the picture and drive around to the front door but nobody was home , I left an very nice note and will return in a few days ...to be continued, I hope ;)

Killer scores Idahawk! Two reds and a RK?!

The story about the guy in the park was hilarious... He was shooting for the big upsell on the tongs ;)
