Honestly I never consider myself an 18" guy.....however once I started digging around in the yard I was able to unearth a few 18's...

Some of those look familiar... ;)

My dad gave me his faded '70s blackie after I got him a nice C&B Performer. Shown here last night heating up. I try to use this as often as I can, and with a family of 4 that's pretty much a given. Love how convenient it is to move around, I usually just lift from the side handles.

Not sure if I want to try cutting the front leg square to fit a cap. I DO want to try refurbishing the handle--good shape, just weathered.

The twist pan, on a firebrick, works as a temporary heat shield for my 18.5" WSM (but I want a better solution there):

My other 18.5", a JJ, saw a lot of duty this spring and summer, doing most of the cooks. Shown here looking smart with zavod handle, Tel-True and lid handle:
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

I'd leave it. Pretty much all the '60s and '70s kettles have this going on with the front leg to one degree or another. It's what we call the "dirty angle".

That's a nice '49'er!

@bear, that is a very very cool and unique grill.  You must be a very proud grillfella.
Is it weird that I want to use that pic as the wallpaper background on my phone?[emoji53]

Is there any way to tell the difference from an 18 and 22 when looking on sites like cl?  I don't have a good enough eye to tell the difference in size from a picture and the ads rarely specify size.

@HoosierKettle,
The position of the vent in relation to the handle is different.  The 22's vents are "inline" with the handle whereas the 18's vents are are not.

Here is a 22"
Here is an 18"
