"Pimping out" my new 18 OTG
« on: August 13, 2014, 04:34:00 PM »
I posted last week that I just had to buy a brand new 18 OTG.  What could I do than to trick it out.

First, Expanded steel on the charcoal grate, I love this especially for cooking with lump.

Purchased a grate from a smokey Joe with some carriage bolts for an elevated cooking grate.

To finish the look off, some Brian wood handles.

Nice, functional mods!  I am going to use that charcoal grate idea - lump always creates havoc with the one touch.  Well done!

If you look close you might notice that I secured the expanded steel to the original grate, I did this with the extra steel from cutting the edges. it works very well.

That looks great!  Now, I'm thinking of an elevated level on my 18.  :) :)

And yes, EM is your friend with the Weber kettle. I use it in lots of charcoal applications.

A side note: the newer model kettles have the bowl handles sticking out further than previous generations.
It does look a bit odd on an 18".  Just an observation, not criticizing.  :D

Brand new 18.5 OTG? Does Weber still sell the 18.5" OTG? I have never seen one.

How is the 18" OTG treating you? Is it just what you were looking for?
