Road trip - double score
« on: July 12, 2014, 08:33:03 PM »
Reno is a place that gets little attention from the CL patrol, but I always keep an eye out there as some good things come along from time to time.  I am batching it this weekend as Mrs. Winz is out of town, so I had some time on my hands.  Gummi has been twisting my arm to score a 22 WSM  ;) so I made the 2 hour drive today and scored a DZ 22 WSM with cover in very nice shape.  The seller threw in a DD black OTG with cover that is like new.  There was a 22.5 NIB roti for $100 in Reno as well, but I did not have the time to get it.

A productive saturday morning!  I am currently running a high heat burn through the WSM to clean it out.  It will get mounted in a SS cart.  The OTG will be gifted to someone who does not yet know that they NEED a Weber!

This is how our conversation went:

Winz: Hey Gummi sell me your 22" WSM!

PGB: It's not for sale?

Winz: That's OK, I'll just buy this one off CL.

PGB: Ok, that was quick and easy. What's wrong with your 18"?

Winz: It's not big enough and doesn't satisfy me.

PGB: That's what she said!

Winz: Story of my life. ::)

* transcript paraphrased from actual conversation and/or concocted lol.

Congrats, Winz! I can't wait to see what crazy things you will do with it.

Well, I am satisfied now Gummi.  This thing is a beast!  After a little adjusting, I got it to fit the metal plate I had made for the 18.5 WSM.  When I called the seller to inquire about the grill, I had him measure the legs center point to center point, so I knew it would be close.  The legs are actually wider than the cart, but the steel plate has enough room.  I just have to pull 3 pins and the whole thing can be removed:

Oh, and since this is actually a kettle forum, here is the OTG the seller threw in.  Just out of the truck, not cleaned up at all.  The lid and bowl are in great shape, no rust inside.   Check out the cover - both the WSM and this kettle are heavy duty and have grommets around the bottom.  Guess I had not seen that before:

Great job! Nice clean mod, I like that. Do you have any balance issues with that much weight on one side of the cart? I know a 22.5  WSM will hold a ton of meat I was wondering if you might need some type of counterweight when it's loaded up.

While a counterweight is certainly an option, the center point of gravity is still inside the axle.  I don't anticipate any issues.  Besides, in its "normal" configuration, I have lots of counterweight!  The carts are pinned together (photo taken with my 18.5 WSM in place):
