what's the most challenging food to skewer?
« on: September 19, 2014, 02:43:03 PM »
I just got a load of cool skewers to review and I want to make sure I give them a good trial.

so, which foods are hardest to skewer?
which foods are hardest to keep ON the skewer?

lastly - any recommended recipes/combinations for a big kabob cook?

"which foods are hardest to keep ON the skewer?"    Ground meat

"so, which foods are hardest to skewer?"   anything that twirls or things that are real hard.....corn cobettes, etc.

I like to do shrimps, but separately from longer cook meat....

Some folks will do vegetables separately too.....not a bad idea as you can get the doneness  right that way.........

For ideas, I tend to go to the pros....BBcue-Z.....................

Thanks 1buckie :)
I agree veggies and mea should be cooked separately. I only put peppers and onion between pieces of meat for the purpose of flavoring the meat and keeping it moist.

I think it’s all about technique and using the right skewer for any particular food. So any thing can be cooked on skewers.
Here is Tri Tip and chicken halves done on the skewers, as you see in the pix, the meat is anchored in 2 different ways.

Crossing the skewers her made it easier to cook large pieces of meat without have to worry about them falling all moving around

Even for mushrooms, if you leave the stems on and go thought them with a skinny skewer, they’ll stay on until the end. The stem is kind of tough, so why not take advantage of it.
