Mulberry?
« on: March 25, 2015, 07:40:35 PM »
Just picked up a decent amount of mulberry this evening.... thought I'd give it a shot in one of the grills or WSM. Anyone used it for smoking before? Or perhaps for making some @zavod44  handles?

I got a small box of small chunks from a guy that swore it did magical things to his briskets! I tasted an SRF brisket that he cooked on a Stumps with a combination of Mulberry and Pecan and thought the smoke was overpowering. Maybe it was just me? Read where its compared to Apple, so I mainly used it with chicken and pork. It didn't rock my world.
I cook on: Backwoods Gater, Lang 36, Hunsaker Smokers, Pellet Pro 22" WSM, BGE's, WSM's, Cajun Bandits, PK Grills, Drum Smokers, Genesis Silver C, Weber Q's, Cookshack 008, Little Chief, La Caja China #2, Lodge Sportsman...oh yeah! Weber Kettles! Kamado restoration and pit modification hack!

Wood Smoking Flavor Chart

Mulberry A mild smoke with a sweet, tangy, blackberry-like flavor Good with Beef, poultry, game birds,  pork (particularly
ham).

I have never tried it but it sounds good.

I like mulberry. Hurricane sandy blew a big branch out of one of our trees. I made sure to let it dry, but it is great on chicken and ribs. It is a tad stronger than apple.

I take a look at this occasionally when looking at new wood to try.
