This Alvin guy is seriously "THE ONE" when it comes to finding the goods.....AND passing it along......
late last nite, I start getting PM's about here's this, is it a 26"?, I'd get it if it's a 26", etc., etc.
I say, I'll get it for you, I'd like one like that sometime, and it sure looks like a 26".....
Alvin says "You need this, I already have a 26" & more spare parts coming from Weber to maybe build another, so you get this one (!!!!)
He ends up texting the guy & getting most of the setup in place.....all I gotta do is make it out there in under 30 minutes......
It IS missing a hubcap.......

It's pretty crusty inside, but man, the wheels are dang near perfect, the lid's a tad out of round with some chipping & scraping, but the bowl's got NO heat blowouts...... :) :) :)
250 'Turds in one shot are now possible !!!!
(after I put together an upper deck grate)
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!!!!
In the true spirit of this place :
THANK YOU ALVIN !!!!!
What a great story! Team work getting it done!

Wow, very nice! Love the MTH and it's a 26'r at that!
Yes sir , that's a thing of beauty , you must be thrilled... Congrats
That's a great story, and a great old grill. You're gonna have to start your own farm just to have a supply of jalapeƱos.

Your welcome Ken. This is a fitting grill for a great grillmaster like you. I know you will enjoy it. From the CL pic I could not tell if it was a 26r or not because I cant see the
Triangle. Ken identified this grill just like that, he was right on the money.

Amazing find! That ash pan is one of the best wood dale examples I have seen!
Alvin - you are not only the king of finding great deals, but an extremely generous grillfella.
Congats to both of you!
Winz

We gotta figure out something MAJOR to do for Alvin's birthday......he'll have one sooner or later !!!!
GRAIL. That is an awesome grill 1buck, and an even better story.
Shit the bed! That thing is freakin' sweet!
I don't think the Wisconsin weather is kind to the really old ones.
Nice tag-team-work fellas.
Update :
The plot thickens.......
I'm scraping & scraping (came up with an Imperial half gallon of waste activated sludge, pics to follow), the wife comes out, asks : "Who's grill is this now?".......me being the honest Richard Cranium that I am says : " Well, Alvin wants me to have it !!"..................
Massive eye rolls....several of them, as she's walking back in the house...... ::) ::) ::) :o:o :o
So, I had stuff that got partly prepared for the big e-cook & I say, let me cook you dinner dear.....thngs are slightly better, plus the expenditure wasn't that much.....more than her $1 trivet she got at the 2nd hand store, but not much......
More pics & dinner in the next set.......
One small dent in the ash pan :

Dug down to the bottom & there's 52 or whatever year old porcelain there, good as new.....

"We need some big 'ol fat ribeyes so it looks like there's something actually going on there....."

I'm just now realizing ..........I have a 'Turd Problem.......the way I've done them for a long time now is based on using a flip-up grate.......where's those $3.75 ones when ya need 'em ?
i flatly refuse to be cuttin' into this one..............
Congrats, Buckie! That thing is a beauty! Couldn't have happened to someone more deserving!
Congrats, Buckie and kudos to Alvin for the assist. I can't think of a more deserving owner of the grill than you!
Very cool stuff. Hats off to you Alvin! Congrats Ken!
Great find gents....that's a beautiful 26er.
Sweet wooddale. congrats and nice teamwork!
Unbelievable find. I find it pretty amazing in this age of technology that people could own such a grill and not do some minimal research to know what they have. It does inspire hope that there are more treasures to be found (even in GA)! Exciting to see this, and congrats!
Very nice of you Alvin! Awesome score for sure! I wonder how hard it would be to replicate the ash pan like that?
Alvin you are the best! 1Buckie I want to see the 250 turds at one time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats Ken! Alvin many Kudos to you!!! Now lets see that massive turd cook!!!

the guy was fairly young (maybe 30 or so) & had got it from a friend who was the son in what he called "a rich family"....so it just hadn't occurred to him to check into it, I believe.....so the whole history is basically under the radar & pretty vague.......
Struck me as someone who maybe used it some, didn't really like messing with it & got a gasser.......you can kinda tell, even without asking, after a few times picking up older ones.....
He also mumbled something nondescript about it being "too big".................

There was a fellow I got to come over from Smoke Ring who said he could probably do it with an English wheel, I think was the right tool.....pneumatic, continuous hammer type thing.....but he got busy w/ stuff & disappeared.....
Winz has had the hooks hand-made already............. 8)

Yes, I really, really may need to find one or two of those cheapo cooking grates before this happens.....

Can't be liftin' out a double decker grate full of 'Turds just to add wood !!!!
Quotecould probably do it with an English wheel
I would think so.
On the ash pan, english wheel will do the finishing work. First need to cut out a rough shape of the pan then use a rounded head body mallet on a sand bag to roughly get the dish shape then finesse it with the English wheel. Then finish cut it to exact specs. Then sand and polish. I know the process needed to accomplish the needed end result. I have done it, just been some years since I have.
I've been thinking about this for awhile....just needed a good model to go by................
Personally, I think all Webers everywhere should have this same ash pan......just a reactionary, I guess......
Alvin is awesome, and buckie is most deserving. Hooray for the WKC!!
Those spin marks are remarkable, and that ash pan should be in a museum! It's gorgeous.
amazing grill. Buckie you are a lucky man. Alvin, way generous. Great job.
So, I think this is the third 26 "dale I've seen. First was Grandpa, then I think Stu has one?, and now this one. About 2 years ago, I missed out on a red 26...I lose sleep over that one from time to time!
