Weber Mods, Tables and Customs / Re: Replating Grill Grates?
« Last post by AnakiMana on May 27, 2024, 11:08:07 PM »
While this Q is technically for the resto of a Southbend commercial stove rack....I though if anyone knows this answer, it would be this group.......

Has anyone ever tried and found a source to replate a grill grate?

Probably with chrome or maybe chrome over nickel?

I know this would not be cheap, but some grill grates (or commercial stove racks) are really pricy to buy new....or are unobtanium for older grills/stoves.

Any thoughts appreciated!
I see it's been 20 days since you asked this. While nobody here has replied, have you learned anything about this elsewhere in the mean time?

You made me curious, so I searched the web for "how much does re-plating metal cost" and found results of shops that do parts re-plating in general. I suspect you'd want to reach out to some of these services and try to get a quote.

I suspect the prep work labor, plating labor, and parts/materials, plus shipping (unless you find a local place) would add up pretty quick.

Charcoal Grilling & BBQ / Vintage 70's Weber vs New Premium
« Last post by onlyp on May 27, 2024, 07:04:43 PM »
I have a 70s avocado weber grill that is pretty great. I found a new premium model with the cool ash tray for cheap. Should I upgrade? Or should I keep the old one with the wooden handles? What would you do?

Charcoal Grilling & BBQ / Ham Shank, slow smoking. Tangy Orange glaze!
« Last post by Stoneage on May 27, 2024, 01:53:36 PM »
Made my Orange marmalade & hot sauce glaze with a splash of sesame oil.
It's slow smoking in the Cajun Bandit smoker with the roti tube as a spacer/stacker.
a little aluminum foil over the openings for the roti shaft.
A little over 200℉ for as long as it takes re-basting for a deep glaze hourly.
Using a 15" "Caldero" as a smoke diffusion & dripping catcher.
There's a gallon of water in there catching all the juice & any glaze that runs off, & by the time it's reduced it will be the liquid for a Pork gravy seasoned with orange, pepper & pork drippings as a sauce.  8)
