 ..........for some play-by-play action........

Saturday 9:15 AM
drive downtown to the appliance parts store for some hi-heat wire.....Stubby's broke down.... :(

They didn't have hi-heat connectors in a small quantity, tho....so I went to the electronics store that I had called 1st.....who didn't have hi-heat wire, score !!!!

11:00 AM begin repairs

Now this may seem like a lot of work for an old broken down deep fryer, but Stubby's special....had him for 27 or 28 years & I think he's probably from the 50's....works great.....the wife said "Let's go to Target & I''ll get you a new one !!"
 No.....I like the one I have.............. ;D

After about 45 minutes of rangling & finagling......

1:00 PM....Stubby's back in business....!!!!!!

9# of Yukon golds, 6# of bacon ends, fried up.......

After an hour & a half of frying......

2:30 PM .......chopped a big load of celery, onion & some bread & butter pickle...

A little mayo, some fresh dill

& a load of this:

Did up some reg slaw & broccoili slaw & 16# of deep Fried Tater Salad !!!!

Ok.....this is all fixed up about 5 o'clock & boy am I happy Stubby works.... ;D

Ate some leftover ribs & went to sleep early..........

...........awoke @ 3 AM & couldn't get back to sleep.....

3:45 AM......begin wrapping meatballs with bacon.......

4:45 AM....Finish carving & coring jalepenos & commence wrapping 'Turds.....

5:15 AM.....run out of toothpicks........

........to be continued..........

Who ya feeding Buckie? It looks great.

Well, let's get back to the play by play & find out................

Sunday 8:45 AM...........Lite some coals & load up Bob & some of the rest of the gang.......

8:55~9:05 AM.......Fix up big ribs, rub dry ones 1st......

9:05 AM......Wife begins to watch "Kitty Bowl" & demands attention......yeah, cute..... ::)

9:11 AM......Wife sees  notepad & writes: "Damn Straight !!!! Big Meats, Please !!!!"

9:15 AM......Ribs down on Bob & set 'Lil Red for breakfast balls.....

9:20 AM......Do up Scotch eggs....

9:28 AM .....Fix wife's Scotch eggs w/ different stuff & bacon....

9:36 AM.....Complete "Sputniks".....

9:55 AM .....Wife makes executive decision on rib tips packet:...Molasses, garlic powder, Himalayan Pink salt & Honey Jim Beam......

10:10 AM....Fix large wet ribs....Garlic powder, molasses, Ron's sauce & brown sugar....

10:15 AM.....Wet ribs down.....on Lulu.....at this point, only three kettles going......Hmmmmmmm

10:30 ~ 1:00 PM......Rest & hang with friends for an impromptu appetizer party.....

included in the app crew is my buddy Pat ( whose backyard features prominently in those previous large cookup postings ) also brings me the first of several  loads of planked wood destined to end up as Weber handles.................

1:00 PM.....Begin 'Turd Assembly.....also set down 2nd load of choinks & make the 1st slosh on the  large wet ribs.....lite more coals.........

1:20 PM......Begin assembly of blueberry backribs.....

These ones become a sore subject later.....last time I'll ever do somewhat thinner ones upside down in foil like this.....cooked a little too high of heat & they fell apart....not terribly, just enough to render them unsuitable for picking up w/o a fork......

( at this point, the wife informs me she had a "little mishap" while I was gone ( prior to 1:00 PM ).."I started up the blender to smooth out the blueberry sauce & the gasket on the bottom came undone.....blueberry sauce all over one side of the kitchen.....glad I missed it !!!!!)

1:30.....Back to 'Turd assembly......

1:40 PM......Backribs down.....assembly of cranberry / fig ribs get those on too.....
(**** Cranberry / fig jam courtesy Bugs'n' BBQ)

Five kettles running now.....I feel much more comfortable.....

1:55 PM.....Back to 'Turd assembly.....

2:45 ~ 3:15 PM.....divvy up Tater Salad, slaw & some of the 1st ribs & choinks to go to Ma's, friends & brother's place........

Holding tank.........

3:25 PM......'Turds finally down on Mae Belle......

3:30 PM.......Watch game for awhile, decide it's the Stupid Bowl & go driving food around town for folks at about 5:00PM or whenever the 'Turds were done.....

Didn't get that many finished shots, but did manage a shot of my plate when I got back....

 A  6 kettle day..... ;D

Monday was tater salad for breakfast & lunch.....meat for dinner....

Couple days in the life.......

Nice Buckie!  What kind of grate is that on the Great Pumpkin?  Looks like it is smaller, but swings open a lot wider than the weber ones.  i like it!

MAX ......it's a Kingsford grate that I got from friends.....the kettle itself bit the dust awhile back.............in that pic of me in the orange shirt in the write up, it's the one right in front.....that kettle was a pain in the ass.....you had to hook the grate UNDER handle bolts that stuck out on the inside of the kettle........ >:(

Thanks, TL !!!!
Don't know what all she ended up adding in.....I'll get the info when she gets back & post......I do know she added in more chipolte powder 'cause I said it didn't have enough bite...... ;D

 OK.....................

For Terry & anyone else who'd like:

http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/blueberry_bourbon_barbecue_sauce.html

.....and from the same people, a page of BBQ sauces & marinades that are all pretty interesting.....

http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes_menus/collections/healthy_recipes_for_bbq_sauce_marinades_rubs

The wife's was a morphed version.....

1 shallot, minced

1/2 sm white onion, minced

4 cloves garlic

1/2 c  Honey burbon

1/2 c catsup

1/3 c apple cider vinegar

1/8 tsp allspice

1 TB reg mustard

2 TB brown sugar

1 tsp Woosty sauce

1/2 tsp chipolte powder (increased to 2 tsp in the ending recipe; this was just right)

1 green apple (Granny?)

2-1/2 cups blueberries

some chili powder*

some molasses*

*these last two were to taste.....

She fiddled with it & stewed it longer than the recipe in the link & it didn't make quite as much after the blender blew about 1/3 of it up the wall & onto the refrigerator.......
