SSP Frame Bolt Rotten Help identify
« on: June 06, 2024, 05:39:38 AM »
Hello! I have an issue with the frame on my SSP. The bolt holding the bottom frame in place has completely rusted out. I need help identifying what type of bolt to order to get the frame stable again. Pictures included. Also anyone interested in this Kettle. I am in Omaha NE and am looking to have it go to a happy home!

It is the star nut. You can bust it out as it is a friction fit using a screwdriver and hammer. Buy new ones on McMaster Carr. Look up Tube connecting nut for 0.87" - 0.9" tube ID with 1/4-20 thread. I use a nut setting tool for bicycles, but you can use a 1/4 -/20 bolt

If I had better search skills, I would have found this post before starting https://weberkettleclub.com/forums/index.php/topic,51758.0.html

I'm dealing with the same issue. The star nuts are rusted away and the bolts need replacing. I measured the ones that came out and they were (as near as I can tell) 1 3/4" x 1/4-20 thread bolts.
kettles, smokers...
