I decided to take a quick peek at FB marketplace after lunch yesterday, and saw a thumbnail of this image under the caption "Push mower and charcoal grille:  $60":

In the milliseconds it took to click on the post, I told myself it's probably too far away, it's probably gone by now, it's probably roached beyond belief . . .  No such luck.  The ad's only been up for 7 minutes, and it's about 60 miles away.  As for the roach potential, I'll take my chances.  Seller responds immediately.  I leave immediately.

The seller is moving, and getting rid of a bunch of stuff left by a former tenant.  She tells me the grill has been sitting under the porch for 5-6 years.  From the accumulated filth inside the bowl, I have no reason to doubt.  Sold American.  (I also bought the reel mower).

Most of the filth cleaned out pretty readily, to reveal a very nice grill, but with a manufacturing defect I hadn't seen before.  The bowl vents and leg sockets are not in harmony.  One bowl vent actually sits on top of one of the leg socket tabs:

I took some quick measurements of the distance between the legs and the bowl lip and found the front leg to be about 1 inch closer to the bowl lip than the back legs.  This might account for the forward tilt:

Appears to date from 1976, with the large bowl tabs, plastic wheels and Bar-B-Q small tab lid vent.  Anyways, here are some pics before and after a quick cleanup:

Really sweet 18! Those are a tough find congratulations. I'm surprised the original owner didn't return it, but that's cool for you.

Beauty!  What did you use to get rid of the faint rust marks on the outside of the bottom of the bowl?
