"Eastener" with a strange lid

First time I have seen a lid like this.  There is a very slight raised area underneath the lid vent.  It had to have been stamped during production at the factory.  Anyone come across a kettle like this?
It's a Pat Pending 18" MBH with transitional wheels (plastic rims with rubber treads).

Huh. That is weird. Wonder if they were trying something during the transitional phase ? Or maybe just a missprint

I seem to recall this was brought up quite a while ago. My 18” PP brave which has the same wheels as yours Jim, has it.  I’ll look at my 18” “C” red tomorrow and report back.

I don't really know offhand, but is the vent and the area directly underneath the vent normally flat or curved? Maybe this was just an attempt to make the vents seal better and/or easier. Matching two flat surfaces would seem to be easier than getting two curved surfaces to match. Even if that worked, someone may have decided the appearance or process to make flat area was not worth the improvement in function.

If your talking about the one I got from you, that one doesn't have the raised area below the lid vent. It's a Pat # lid vent that has plastic wheels and plastic treads.

Here is lid from another Pat Pending "Eastener" I have.  This one has metal wheels with no thumbscrews so I believe it's a 1970. No raised area below the lid vent.




For comparison,  here is the one with the raised area beneath the lid vent. I believe this one is a 1971 as it has plastic wheels with rubber treads.

Gotta be a prototype, you should put it on ebay and get top $$$ for it.

If they have a rivet machine set up for the vent on a 26” and another one for a 22” and so on...
think about mass production here... they would have a mount or frame that would hold the lid from underside to support it.. with that being said a 26” would be have a flatter support plate.
Now my idea is if a 22” lid is riveted on the 26” machine it might cause a flat dimple on a lid (like in the photo) that has a more pronounced curve to it.
This is my guess / idea that might cause this marking on the lids.

I have a 18" Cado that has the same raised lip at the vent - I'll try to get a pic up later today - this is the only other ive seen like it [emoji106]
