Shish Kabobs
« on: May 11, 2013, 02:36:14 AM »
First go using the shish kabob set tonight
Chicken and veg cooked over lump charcoal
The charcoal I used is from Thailand and I think it's from Mangrove trees
Anyway it has a very distinctive smell and gives a great flavour to the food

Marinated chicken with veg and potato bake also a couple of the kids snags
I cooked it with the lid on , wasn't sure how to set up the coals so I  started off direct but was getting to many flare ups under the chicken so moved the coals to one side
Chicken was great , with plenty of charcoal flavour
I have to say it was fun using the kebob setup, a mate came over with some beer and we chatted and tended to the kettle discussing the best way to cook our feast
It's autumn now and it's getting pretty cold at night. I think it got down to 60f this evening, so it was great standing round a nice hot kettle to keep warm
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Stout Lookin' rods ya got there, big guy !!!!

Looks real good on the finish !!!!

I get going a bit too hot too, finding a sweet spot takes a bit......

I'll put the meat ones over a hotter area & veg only or shrimp ones off to the sides with less heat & it seems to get done about the same time.......

Wow that looks so good!  I love how you have the kabobs set up....everything separately so that it cooks evenly.  Nice.

Snag?  Hot dog?
ribs pre-boiling & reaching for the lighter fluid!

Is it weird to have food and kabob ring envy at the same time? That looks really good!

No, that's perfectly normal.
