Polishing cast iron?

This is a before and after of a cast iron pan a coworker brought in for me to "save". It was his dads.

I used steel wool to remove the rust. then I washed it with dish soap and water and towel dried it. Then I coated it on olive oil and baked it in the oven at 350 for an hour. Then I coated it with one last layer of oil.

Does anyone use a lid for their skillet? I use my 12" most often and the wife wants a lid to reduce grease splatter

If it's a lodge you can buy one at target for $19.99. Or amazon for a couple dollars more. It's a glass lid. I use a lid from a nonstick skillet that happened to fit that I already had.

Yes...He told me that his wife wanted him to throw it out but he told he he could save it. He told her he did it and she thought he bought a new one..lol...Here are some of mine...
