Vortex Cooking
« on: June 11, 2017, 01:20:17 PM »

I've decided to try a Vortex this evening to cook some chicken.  It's also the first time trying out my Smoke Thermometer, but so far I couldn't be happier with both.  It's really nice to have accurate temperatures.

I will post the results in a couple of hours.   My BBQ thermometer always shows high, but really having a probe in there really tells a different story - The smoke broadcasts very sting.    I did have to get over drilling holes in my grill.  A will placed magnet closes it when not in use.

Is that two chickens cut in half?
And did you drill two holes for your probes?

Boy, that's a ton of aluminum foil around the bottom of your Weber Kettle and I well understand makes clean-up much easier.  However, does it block some-what the air flow coming from the bottom of your WK??

The aluminum foil is 2 pieces, as there are lots of drippings.   Chicken came out moist and tender.    The foil blocked the air flow, and forced it up the vortex....it really worked well for indirect heat and kept it hot.   The Chicken got rave reviews from the family.   Darker color due to some smoking wood on top....great flavor though.

Not sure, but it was the recommended size for a 22.5 inch grill.
