I cook tri tip pretty regularly and never saw this before and today I saw it on two separate tri tips bought on different days at two different stores. I cut it open and the inside looks just like the outside. Strange.

I'm cooking it and will be taking it to a family lunch later. Maybe I'll let my mother-in-law eat it first and see what happens.

Looks like best bet is a nodule. Thanks for your diagnosis. I cut it up and found some more weird stuff. Strange.

What is a nodule and is this part safe to eat or should one discard that section? If my wife saw that she'd make me cook something else for dinner.

That would be in a bag and going back to the store/butcher that it came from.

Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

That's probably the smart thing to do but thought I'd live dangerously. Just cut off and tossed the bad part and ate the rest...if I don't make it and you don't see any more posts from me you know why.

cut it out and grill on, I come across these about every other tri tip I trim... Personally, I don't really care what it is, or don't WANT to know what it is, I remove it and fire up!!

Looks likes moose turd. For the price I pay for beef around here there no way no in hell I would have done anything but take it back to the butcher. That piece of meat around here would have been $40-$50. That's why I mostly do pork
