I am looking at giving smoke a try here very soon.  Bout to order me a set of Webber charcoal baskets and a Javelin thermometer this after noon.  I was looking at a link Troy posted in a different thread of mine last week and just curious as to your guys favorites setups for your 22.5s?  Any and all info is greatly appreciated

Snake all day for l&s. Baskets have their place for sure though. I tried a minon in a basket for some ribs on Labor Day. Had to refuel constantly. With a snake, I would have had to rotate the grate once or twice, but that's it.

Still need a 22" yellow

I agree with @TheDude - snake all the way. According to @1buckie, run your burn counterclockwise for pork, clockwise for beef. I've done it that way ever since I  saw it and haven't had a klinker yet.  Can keep a steady temp all day without even trying.

I heard that said here before. What is the reason? Or is it superstition? @effinUker @1buckie

Another vote for using a snake for low and slow. After a few runs you get the hang of it and realize other than capacity's sake you don't need anything more for smoking meat.

MacEggs

The snake all day long ... Set-it-and-forget-it ... I have gotten 11 plus hours without having to reload any charcoal.  No tinkering or monitoring.  Just let it ride.

It works even better during a full moon.
Q: How do you know something is bull$h!t?
A: When you are not allowed to question it.

Lumpy Coal

If I try snake I'd have to try briquettes!

Nawww - you can do a snake with lump. I think it you tried one with WOOD you may struggle, but lump should work.

For smoking, I'd recommend the Maverick 732.

Try this you wont have any trouble getting 10-12 hour burns with store bought lump.

You can't always get what you want....but if you try sometimes you get what you need
