Weber Smokey Mountain Mod – Performer Cart Install

The WSM has always been jealous of all the traveling the kettle next door does. Always wheeling around to and fro. Its time for the WSM to get mobile!
Mod Month 2015 2nd place winner here! Chicago area member, Gunner, needed a better way to move around his WSM. I can’t imagine the snowing blowing 6 month Chicago winters had anything to do with those needs.
Gunner skipped the casters – good call dude. Casters installed on the legs just isn’t stable enough and it looks pretty tacky. We can do better than that guys. Check out what Gunner did!
WSM in a Performer Cart
Gunner started out with the basic Weber Performer cart. Maybe turn that old kettle into a planter? Or save it for another mod 😉
Take out the bottom shelf/cage and use a rubber mallet to flatten it. This will provide a nice surface for the wooden panel to sit.
Cut a piece of plywood to match the wire shelf and pain it black to match the lower portion of the Performer cart.
Reinstall the flattened wire shelf and place the wooden base on top. The base of the WSM will fit her perfectly
The height is perfect as well. With the lid off, the cooking height of the WSM is slightly higher than the table height. Access to the door and all vents is not restricted in any way.
And of course, break that WSM on wheels in with a couple of butts. If it gets windy halfway through the cook, no prob, just take your smoker for a walk!
