What will you look for now? Congrats

zavod44

At this point I'm looking for anything old....I want thumbscrews, I want Wood Dale.  I would also love a baby blue, a lime or a avocado...a seville, a sequoia.  I really like the old stuff though...

I paid $35, a lot nicer than the last 18" I saw somewhere elsE   ;).  As far as the leg socket, I am either gonna drill it and put a stainless 6/32 bolt and nut or maybe I was thinking drilling and putting a pop rivet in there.  I'm only worried about the pop rivet because it seems the aluminum rivet might soften up under heat and it won't hold so well after a while.  The nut and bolt would be smaller in size than the rivet.  You really won't see either one, I'll prob have to go with the nut and bolt I can use a lock washer as well to keep it tight.

Brian

I've used very small self-tapping sheet metal screws, run into a slightly smaller drilled hole....
Worked pretty good & held real tight for as long as I had the kettle
(No longer own it, or I'd get pics )

Great score.... !!!!!!

Was wondering, for you masters of rehab, how do you deal with the chipped enamel ?

Some kind of hi-test, hi-heat paint, or is there a whole other way to go about it ?
"If you want it fancy there is BBQ spray paint at home depot for that. "
    Covered, damper-controlled cooking.....IF YOU PLEASE !!!

The chipped enamel is very tough, I have found some paint that will withstand, but the color match thing is difficult.  At this point I just try to get the grills cleaned up as best I can and go from there.  If your gonna make a looker not a cooker then I have a good solution for those grills.  At that point they become yard sculpture, which I'm okay with that too...

Wanted: 18" Platinum any color will work
This is my Kettle there are many like it but this one is mine......

Only other one I saw was Jeff's and he has like at least two or three including a ranger, and then some guy in Wisconsin bought some horrible piecE of crap 18" yellow that wasn't worth a dime.  They seem to be pretty tough to find, I feel pretty lucky.

I have had three yellow 18's and one 22. I like the yellows, but they are really bright. 8)

I have my near perfect yellow 22, except fro one quarter size chip on top.
Paid more in gas to get it. Bought from the orignal owner. Paid $9.
I have only seen 1 or 2 for sale in the last 2 years.
Shaun is right, these things can blind you!  8)

This is the only pic I have handy.
