Nice surprise

Saw this pic on Facebook marketplace offering a load of Weber grates for cheap. A garden centre near me is closing down. Sadly the owner passed away so his wife has sold it.

Anyway I went to check the grates and unfortunately they were all lower cooking grates for WSM's. The new staff said there was a junkyard out back which is getting collected by the scrap man on Monday and I could have a look around

To my surprise, I was greeted by loads of old webers! Most of it in completely unsalvageable condition, even though I'm usually up for a challenge and a resto they were in a bad way all thrown on a pile.

I was heading off when I noticed a big black frame poking out from under some stuff, pulled the trash off and was greeted by this ranch!

And then... this C dated beauty!

Couldn't believe my luck! I asked the guy how much he wanted and he said id be doing them a big favour by wheeling them out of there! It's covered in mildew and dust but there's no chips or cracks on it at all!

Stoked I called my friend who'd mentioned the grates advert to me, turns out it was his ranch that was gifted to him years ago by a client from the US, he'd had it for years and cooked on it but when he got a bit older he decided to donate it to the garden centres owner who had it in his personal collection!

He was absolutely delighted that I've rescued it and will clean it up and enjoy it!

I hadn't even given it much thought in my mad rush to get it in the van and back to work! I suppose it's had a donor bowl at some point then! By the looks of his collection of lids and spare parts it makes sense!

Wow! What a great find. Glad to see you kept them from going to the scrap yard. You will find the Ranch is Huge! Great fun though.

No idea where I'm going to keep it just yet, my mates lockup is the safest place for now, dry, clean, and out of the wife's view

Wow, just WOW!!  What an amazing find, can't wait to see it cleaned up (when you can get away with it lol).  Will be cooking on my Ranch tomorrow and so stoked to have the experience.

Congratulations and I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Cheers!

That's my friends, it's for sale, he's had it around 10 years but as with most classic cars it's a labour of love... especially once kids arrive on the scene, it just sits there really and I think he struggles to find anyone here able to work on it
