My First Vintage Kettle
« on: December 09, 2021, 01:21:17 PM »
Monday marks exactly two years since my first vintage Weber kettle find.  I recall taking a half day off from work and driving into Tennessee to meet the seller who was from Nashville and agreed to meet halfway since he and his wife were heading south that day.  I gave him a Ben Franklin and I put the grill parts in the back of my Yukon, all separated so no parts would scratch each other.  It was my first in person viewing of a metal bowl handle grill and I was pretty excited to say the least.  I remember feeling a bit odd at the prospect of owning 4 grills, but I got over that quickly as anyone can attest who’s seen my posts.  This one is special…..Funny how they all have a story to go along with….. I’d love to see similar posts from you WKC members that care to share.  Here’s my ‘75 red head….

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Yes, there is always a reason that "first wife" is long gone!

Agree!  I still have both wives in my life, but my second is the one that has my heart and always will….first one is still a dear friend.  I can’t seem to let go of grills either!

Thanks!  I actually didn’t know how many times I’ve cooked on it until today when I looked back through my pictures.  3 times it seems.  I cleaned it back to new condition each time so it could come back to the Weber room.

She is a beauty! Thanks for sharing pictures and the story. My first vintage cooker was a C date code 18” wsm which is still my favorite and go-to smoker.

Thanks!  I'd love to see some photos / cooks on that C code WSM.  I keep hearing that the 18s are the best WSM as far as ease of holding temps.

What is the definition of vintage for a kettle? For cars, it’s 20 years old. For airplanes, vintage is 30+ years old.
