Gen one Master Touch

Is the aluminum housing that holds the removable thermometer on the 1st Gen MT lid easy to remove and replace?      I have a MT that is missing this housing, and want to know if should find a donar MT to replace the missing housing.

If you have experience with this, your feedback would be appreciated.
