Ok, what the heck is going on with this Summit?

I saw this on CL for $300, but just for fun, how much would it cost to get this fixed up properly?  It looks like the seller got a replacement unit and is selling the old defective unit.  What's up with the legs??

Looks like a Summit bowl/lid on a regular triangle/leg setup.

It would probably cost close to what a new one would cost to fix it properly. He has dropped the price a few times on that one.

This person got some parts from a defective unit and he's trying to pass it off as a real Summit. That ain't right.

On the other hand though, I need to do some reading on these summits... How do they compare to the Akorn, or ceramics?

I ammend my original statement.  After reading it closely, it clearly states work needs to be done on it.  But the pics do look silly....

I like my Kettles like my coffee....strong and black.

You've got to come up with a pretty convincing reason to Weber CS for parts on this one, and you can forget about ereplacement parts! I wonder if it can even be registered?

He probably got a warranty replacement and is selling the originals. You would still need the grates, hinge, retainer ring and handle at least (unless they are included but not pictured)

If you had those then it might be worth a table build but all those parts are proprietary and won't be cheap if you can find them. Weber CS won't be overly helpful with your a serial number which was already likely used by seller.

By the time you tally up the costs i don't see this as a steal...

As pictured, I probably wouldn't take it even if it were free.

OMG that is funny, the cost of the parts one by one to get the thing operational would be a decent slice of the base model.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Yeah, as stated by others, there is a bunch of stuff missing.

You need the ring because that is what the hinge bolts to. The legs are useless unless you use it without lid.

Though it states in the text that it's a rehab project
the photos are awfully deceiving.

Besides, it makes that thing look worse than a puckerbutt.

I can imagine an outrageous price for the Rapidfire lid damper alone, which is only available exclusively through Weber.

Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

Heyjude

The seller isn't trying to pass it off as a summit.
Clearly it probably needs more in parts than its worth,
I don't even think Weber would sell you them..
Not worth at his price..
I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..
