Rust holes near brackets in bottom of Kettle
« on: August 09, 2017, 07:38:04 PM »
Hi all. I have an 80's kettle that had been left out int he rain for many years .
Its in pretty good condition except the the leg brackets are spot welded on , the bottom of the kettle has some rust holes in it.
Even if I MiG welded it I think the metal is too rusty and thin , only where the brackets are . I'm thinking of maybe using some steel patches first in the inside . I'm wondering if anyone else has attempted this fix as it looks like a common rust area .
cheers from downunder ...

This was an extreme case, I did some backing discs of sheet steel on the bowl of this Red 18" no code.

I gave it to a friend and it is still being used today.

The things I'll do for a REDHEAD!
I cook on: Backwoods Gater, Lang 36, Hunsaker Smokers, Pellet Pro 22" WSM, BGE's, WSM's, Cajun Bandits, PK Grills, Drum Smokers, Genesis Silver C, Weber Q's, Cookshack 008, Little Chief, La Caja China #2, Lodge Sportsman...oh yeah! Weber Kettles! Kamado restoration and pit modification hack!

Hi sorry its been a long time getting around to this project . here is a picture of the bowl . Im thiking of welding some 100mm round plates where the leg brackets are . then using a bit of brake caliper paint to touch up the welded areas .
you can see shese seen better days . If only we could buy replacement bowls in Australia , but they dont keep them as spares ... I would pay a good price for a black bowl in good condition if anyone wants to sell me one . Im in Australia !!

I have a black bowl but it’s a one touch bowl, not the old daisy wheels.

Sent from my iPhone using Weber Kettle Club mobile app
Looking for: Red MBH 26"(The Aristocrat), Chestnut-coppertone (The Estate), Glen-blue (The Imperial), and The Plainsman.

I would buy any black bowl however it would have to be in Australia , the shipping cost would not be worth it otherwise
