Weber Blue Performer, Purplish?

Hey everyone, I am posting new (posting) here and have a question.  I recently picked up a craigslist "Blue" 10 year old Kettle that I drove 3 hours round trip for.   I am a Penn State fan and want BLUE like Facebook Blue... and when I got there it was Indigo/Purplish. I still bought it due to it's price and the time it took me to get there.

I recently found a Weber Performer in BLUE listed on Facebook and I really don't want to be disappointed if I make the trek to get it. Will it be BLUE or are purplish? Are they all like that?  It will be the Performer of the last Generation with the plastic table. I was told by the seller it is Blue but that is what the Craigslist person told me with the craigslist kettle.

Thanks!

Craig

Welcome to the site! Blue kettles, especially the ones from the late 90s-2013 have a varying degree of a periwinkle tint to them. They look blue and are pretty sweet. It's only when you pair a 2000s blue next to a 1970s-80s era blue that you will notice a huge difference. To add more confusion, no two blue kettles are exactly alike. I say go get it. If it's not your color, you can always flip/sell it.

It is amazing how the blue shows up through the camera lens.. looks BLUE.  As soon as the guy opened the door to his house I saw that It was purplish/indigo. I guess I will make a 2 hour round trip to see what it actually looks like. And if it isn't already in the color palate world, Facebook Blue should be a color.. that is what I am looking for.

What do you think a fair price is for a hardly used ( so she said ) Performer with gas assist?

The value of kettles varies by area. That being said, a blue Performer in great condition, is a good deal for $150(ish) pretty much anywhere. Anything over that amount is your discretion (how badly you want it, can you at least break even if you decide to flip, how often they pop up, etc)

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn't?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I've amassed a nice collection, but I'm missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

Which one?  ;)

As bad as blues are to get right, try finding a yellow that everyone agrees on! Do you want it to look right indoors or out? Incandescent or fluorescent? Noon or sunset? Full sun or shade? Hot or cold kettle? Better yet, come join the dark side and learn to appreciate black kettles.

Any of those work.. none of those are INDIGO/PURPLE :)

I am picking it up for $100 so hopefully all is right when I get up there with condition and color.

On a side note, how do people not know the age of their kettle.  The one I picked up on craigslist that is in excellent condition (other than the color) was Oh I only used it a couple of times, got it a couple of years ago.  IT WAS 10 YEARS OLD!!

Check our this article it should answer all your questions about age.

Do you have any pics of the purple(ish) kettle you already picked up?

@mdb240

I know exactly what you are describing, regarding the purplish color. I've had a '78 MBH and a 80', that were truly blue in color. I've had three different blue performers and all had that purple metallic hue to them. I'm hoping to find a Crate & Barrel blue, to see if it has the purple metallic hue to it or not.

Outside of Philadelphia, Pa.. I have someone buying it for $75, they will be here in an hour. It is what I paid, i just wasted all my time going to get the thing. Hopefully the performer works out much better (color wise).. i wanted a performer all along!
