Hot wings
« on: April 28, 2017, 02:01:10 PM »
My first time grilling hot wings and looking for a good recipe.  I was thinking about doing webers "Hot, Sweet, and Sticky Chicken Wings " recipe from the weber site.  Has anyone tried them?

Also,  I don't have a vortex but was thinking about just piling coals up in the middle or using my slow n sear.
There are about 40-45 wings.

What do you think?

I have not tried that recipe, but it sounds good.
By 40-45, wings, do you mean the complete wing, or do you mean the separated pieces?
I usually do use my Vortex for wings, but it isn't required. A simple two zone setup does just fine. The Vortex just gets them a bit more crispy.

I don't have an SnS, but their Facebook page has plenty of wing cooks posted in it...

I've tried many different ways and end the end went back to my roots. Two zone fire. Fire the wings direct heat for some char and marks then slide indirect for the cook. Ned high heat.
Maybe not the most crispy, but it's how I enjoy them.
Play around with different methods and find the way you enjoy them. That's part of the fun!

Ok I made the wings.  I altered the recipe some. In the end it was amazingly good. But it wasn't hot.  So have to add something hotter.
I made three different kinds. 1st one was just marinated in sweet baby rays.  2nd one was Frank's buffalo wings sauce,  and 3, the weber recipe with exceptions. I doubled both sugers, added a tsp of cayenne powder. Taste very good but still not hot.
Everyone really like this recipe the best.
