  .......................the Bone Daddy Faux Copperhead.............

So I've these friends that have a giant backyard.
I cooked for their wedding there.
They cooked for my wedding there.

Every last Sunday of the month I cook up a bunch of stuff
for a large group (could be anywhere from 35- 75 people).

They already have 3Webers & a"Kingsford" kettle & I bring
3 or 4 more kettles & maybe a gas box for heating/warming.

My good friend Patrick is a tremendous handyman/jack of all trades type guy, but I could never get him to fix this:

One of the old used Webers had a block bolted on top of the handle; nothing on the
underside where your fingers wrap around....I've burnt myself numerous times forgetting that it was like that.....

I got to thinking (there's that thinking problem again...)
after I cooked some beef short ribs awhile back & I saved the bones in the freezer.....

Break out the Dremel & go at it( thought of just boiling them, but I went for that authentic "just cooked"look...

Then the old German wood chisels

Some fitting & paint on the bell...

And....

We're back in action !!!!
~~~>K
This is minor Weber Mod #2
  Here's the recent update....today ~~~>
Welp.......
The dawgs ate the bone, so I had to chisel out another one!
Start by marking off the slot & Dremel out the four corners, then Dremel across the end dimension.............
Softly vise up & chisel out the fitted slot for handle.....
Double check for tight fit.....
Went ahead & painted the whole kettle with hi-heat primer & copper this time, it was only the lid before....
Quick assembly to check fit & then layer the bone w/ several coats of spar varnish......
Should be ready for heat setting the paint by noon tomorrow...... :D
I remember the bone handles. Those handles are cool! How did the paint on the lid hold up with the high heat primer? Looks like a genuine copper kettle.  :)
don't know how the new paint job will do as it's just done in the last few days, but the old one, minus the undercoat, under fairly rough conditions, lasted several years & had very few scratches..............
Just a thought, ( I know, I'll be careful ) What about a clear cote on the handle? It might help with preservation from weather and dogs.
Because Here we are Friends. Here we are Brothers.
Gotcha.........
"then layer the bone w/ several coats of spar varnish......"
Really helps with weathering, the dawgs just plain don't care, they'll eat it anyway...... ::)
Same stuff  Brian"the Man" is using on his really nice ones......... ;D
Nicely done, Buckie! I think I'm going to need to do something like that on that Hunters Pink kettle I picked up a few weeks ago.
If you're going to do a whole paint job, it's best to "rough up" the surface of the porcelain 1st.....gives the paint something to stick to.....
Find ceramic based hi-heat....automotive stores have some, maybe a large hardware place.....
You don't have to do the primer, but the color  takes quicker & looks more even with it.....
Clear coat (hi-heat)  over the color really makes it jump !!!
