I have both and I love my SS Performer!

That being said, keep the g2 model.
It is taller.
The frame is much more sturdy.
The table has more usable space, and you don't have to clear everything off of it to reach the bin.
The 1lb. propane cylinders are much more convenient.

Which one is in better shape?

If they are both in similar condition, the same color, and both gas-assist then I vote with @jcnaz to keep the G2.  Sames reasons as above and also no need to refill/re-certify the 5Lb. tank.

@chiku18, I have a soft spot for the SSP's only because I have one (maybe two by the end of today).  Let me know if you end up keeping the gen2 and you need to re-home the SSP.

Sometimes convenience should take a back seat to innovation, style, and coolness, imo.

The SSP was the result of Weber's quest to make the ultimate charcoal grill by including a way to easily start the charcoal. I wonder how many times the inventor was laughed at when he said- "hey, how about we add a propane tank to start the charcoal?"

The inclusion of a stainless table shows that this thing was top of the line first class.

IOW, it's more convenient to drive a 2012 Silverado for example, but I'd rather drive a 1967 C10.  ;D

@charred gives the perfect counter argument and the reason you should keep both...

While I haven't cooked on my SSP yet, if I had to choose between the gen 3 or SSP I'd take the SSP any day. When I do store charcoal in the bin, I'm not reaching for it in many of my cooks. Low and slow I use my SnS and if I refuel it's usually around 8 hours in and a one time thing. Point for me is I don't have much on the table to begin with so the clearing it off thing isn't an issue. Love the looks of the SSP and I'll never get rid of mine.

I had the same dilemma. I rescued a red SSP last spring and used it all year.  Loved it.  I am 6' 5" tall though.  I found a steal on a Gen 2 and jumped on it.  I re-homed the SSP to a local friend.  The extra height and the option of putting the new metal table on the Gen2 made it  an o brainer for me.

Very good arguments to keep both and some compelling to keep SSP specially by @charred . That's why I love ( and hate :) ) this club.

I liked @magonzo idea on how to keep both . I will give it to my cousin who lives a mile from me, this way i will get opportunity to cook on both.

@Mr.CPHo - when i decide to re-home i will let you know for sure. May be a way to meet.

No right or wrong answer here. It is whatever you prefer more. I agree with  Charred and others  choosing SSP. I also prefer style and coolness over few more functions.

For me, the right answer is to make room to keep both. I love all my Gen1,Gen2, and Gen3 Performers in that order. I choose not to make any hard decision, so I keep em all.

Good luck!

Everything said here I'd second and it's not even close.  SSP's for show because of their classic style but the later models are engineered much better IMO.

Gotta strongly disagree with "Not even close" and "engineered much better".
