I'm wanting to convert a SSP from the old 5lb LP tank to the 1lb LP tanks. Anyone know if I have to get the newer style regulator assembly, or has anyone used a regulator from a GoAnywhere?  If anyone has used the GA regulator, would love to hear the details... thanks!

Hi, have you considered a new 5 lb tank like this? http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=21226816&cp=2568443.2568445.2598559.1304000.1260261

It seems other people have gotten it to work, from the reviews.

Some guy named MikeRocksTheRed bought that one and wrote a good review of it....wait, that's me!  LOL.  I love my 5lb tank.  Since I only run the gas assist for 2-4 minutes to get the chimney going it lasts a really long time.  I suppose it would be nice to have 1lb tanks so I always had a backup for when the tank runs out, but I just keep some lighter cubes for when that happens.

I am thinking about doing the same thing to my SSP project.  You need to change the regulator? I thought you just needed correct fitting to connect 1lb tank as 5lb tank has different hook up.

I'm upgrading my older brother's non-LP SSP for him. We're trying to keep the cost to a bare minimum, so a new 5lb tank is not necessarily ideal.

No idea. If it's simply a matter of changing a fitting, that'd be great. Not sure what fitting would work, or how you would stop/start the gas flow.

Do you have a QR fitting on the regulator?  A lot of them came with a male fitting on the reg.

Mine was updated at some point in time and had the old style internal thread tank fitting with an OPD valve tank, so It was an easy mod.

Get a Bulk tank refill fitting from Harbor Freight.

I never use the disposable and when I rebuild the SSP, I'll likely remove the old style fitting and replace it with an Acme fitting. YMMV

This is what I have. Is this the older style ?  Won't even fit on 20lb tank.

What kind of adapter do I need to connect to 1lb tank or even 5lb tank from this.

This is the old style internal thread (left hand tighten) and will fit a 5 gallon tank.

If you want to upgrade the the new style fitting contact Hank Hill or get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=acme+nut+propane&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=153718312745&hvpos=1t1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16138890876820819434&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9033259&hvtargid=aud-272129123886:kwd-37444110261&ref=pd_sl_u3s64jthz_b

So here's what I'm working with.

One is from a Coleman stove, the other from a no name grill. I was able to get the existing connections off. Just need to get them connected to a hose now.

Not quite sure at this point, but I'm confident I'll be able to rig something up. Others have done similar set ups:

Sweet fund Mike. That thing is in about the same shape as mine was when I got it, you can getting looking nice in no time.

Mine was missing the propane tank , but it had the pipe and on/off valve, so this is what I built for mine. Hope this helps.
I bought a weber portable/picnic grill for $10 and stripped the regulator off of it. Just went to the local Do It Best store and they hooled me up with some fittings to get it the right size for the pipe.

It's literally just a piece of 4in pvc and a couple pieces of wood, cut to space it out so it lines up centered in the cover. I used the original tank bracket on the side.

Hope this gives you some guidance, or misguidance....lol

Thanks

All of the 5lb tanks that are in my boneyard actually have the QR fitting on them. Trying to find a solution using the Coleman/GA regulator...
