Got the frames done.

The main frame is all painted,dryed and ready to go.  I ended up painting it all as I could not get the top frame section to shine up like other painted areas. I accidentally gave a crinkle finish only on top section of the main frame. Other areas are smooth finish.



Heavily textured or an orange peel on the top of the frame only.  I kind of like it. I will keep it the way it is.








Testing the burner and the igniter function. The burner assy. was plugged solid before.  Works!!!  Now, need to work out 1lb can conversion.



I got some more Zav wood today.  I am hoping to have all this finished by this week. Hardest part now will be the tank conversion and picking the right wood. Hopefully I will get the older style ash pan this week.  Every other parts are all accounted for and ready to get assembled.

The best part of this project is from this point on till this SSP becomes a whole working Performer.     Really excited to get this project finished.

Yes. I just picked up 20 Coleman 1lb  at $2 each.  Making it look same as other Gen. or hide it out of the way to give a clean look but still functional.  I forgot about the ash ring attachment.  I will make 3 aluminum clips and rivet them on unless I find a way to attach the cross bar somehow with a new style ash sweeper.

As for wood ....Koa or black walnut burl.  Everything else is just assembly work.

$2 per pound is a very cost effective solution.  Will it hook on the old bracket or will you have to make a new fastener?

More than likely, fabricate some kind of bracket to support the 1lb tank.

Ash pan ring mod. 

I think this is better idea than making up clips or using clamps outside to hold the ring. I had this cross bar.



Trial and error bending the bar till I got the ring to sit flush on the bowl. This is with a new style ash sweeper with the cross bar. H washer gets deleted. This idea has been brought up before by other member. Whoever it was... thanks!  I just happen to remember from previous build thread.






Other idea was to install ash sweeper assy as is with the washer. The cross bar would be flipped around as not to interfere with the sweeper assy and tie wires through inner leg sockets to the cross bar.  This would be all done from inside the ring so the outside would look nice and clean.

When I replaced my one touch the handle did lock in using the crossbar but omitting the washer.  I've installed a new ash ring and pan since then so if anyone needs the ring and the crossbar I think I still have them.  I have the ash pan away so I know I don't have that any more.

The washer has a void in the middle for the tab on the end of the sweeper handle to lock in. It does not lock in the same way without it, but there is no way it is coming off. It is solid without any play but still smooth to operate the sweep. I will add c-clip at the end of the sweeper rod or add little clip in the middle so the handle locks in and can not rotate.





I got the 1lb tank conversion done. I am using the newer gen regulator.

Support bracket made.




Mounted to the stock 5lb tank bracket using existing hole. No additional holes were drilled. It is solid the way it is but I added cable ties for extra support. Bungee cord to keep the sliding stock bracket in place for now.  I will come up with something better later.





Splash of the Green color is nice touch.



Looks like I may get it all done by tomorrow if I don't come across any more issues.  One of them today was the regulator valve was leaking slightly. I would have to really tighten shut the knob.  I ended up switching it out. Other was the weak spark. I had that clean and is now working fine.

Few more Zav wood I got. High Fig. Cedar double rivets are from the previous batch that I saved to include on all cedar single screw ones






Final stage.  I put in a new one touch cleaning system and added a small SS washer to lock the sweeper rod. It is now locked in unless you really force it and rotate.


Burner tube assy on.



The Lid is ready.  Koa handle for now. I may mod a double rivet handle instead later.  Koa vent tab.








Brand new lid bale assy. with black walnut burl rollers. Here is the tiger wood double rivet I have in mind. 



I will need some cutting and drilling to get this on. Just set it on top to take this pic. What do you guys think?

@greenweb  - I think you are correct.  My handle didn't lock in but it was so tight that it wasn't a problem.

It was challenging at times, but all worth it.

All new - SS cooking grate, charcoal grate, lid bale assy., axle nut, frame end plugs, bottom rack end plugs, caster rubber wheels.  Still waiting for the ash bucket.
