SSP Under Table Lighting

I'm in WA state and it gets dark pretty early here this time of year.  We cook under artificial light.  This tends to make the ash sweet/vent control pretty dark, as it is always in shadow (at least that the angle of my patio lighting to the grill.)  This makes it difficult to see the sweep control to fine tune the vents.

Inspired by someone on a car forum I read, I picked up one of these lights.  (The guy on the car forum uses it to light a non-lit trunk.)

The magnet holds it to the underside of the SSP frame fine.  It hasn't fallen off yet, but it seems like a really bumpy ride could knock it off.  There is a holder that is included and can be stuck on if the magnet proves to not be strong enough.

It has a three position switch, On, Off, and Motion Detection.  With Motion Detection, it comes on nicely when I reach under the grill.  Feet/legs can sometimes activate it as well.  It does work well and lets me see the vent position much better.

I'm not sure how long the batt lasts.  The amazon page indicates 4 hours on or 2 months on motion detection mode.

Recharges with a (not included) cell phone micro usb charger/cable.

It's completely hidden from top and front views.  You really need to get under it to see it.

I really recommend it.  A great and inexpensive enhancement

Here's some pics.  Ignore my Left Handed (and filthy!) SSP set up.

Seems like a useful mod
I love how you have the vent position markings, I may have to do that!

I really like the markings.  They were expensive, about $30 I think.  I am pleased with how they turned out.  I can send the file if you are interested.

I think Troy was trying to recreate as a sticker to sell and benefit the club.  I think he was having issues with the stickers burning up, including the high heat one.

Here's the thread about making my aluminum one:

Nice Mod!  Very functional and the price is right.

I hesitate to call it a mod, it is so simple and non-destructive.

That's a great idea. I store many smaller items on the rack that sometimes a light would be great.

Man, besides the obvious grill uses I can think
of lots of other places to put a light like that to work.
Had some similar battery lights from Costco but
they weren't reliable and chewed thru AAA batteries.
Gotta love the rechargeables!

Yes.  Gotta love Li-ion.  It beats the pants off of the previous gens of recharge-ables.
