ISO: nice stick lighter
« on: December 26, 2016, 04:27:36 PM »
Can any of you guys recommend me a nice stick lighter? I'm looking for something that's better quality than "it's cheap but gets the job done". I'd also prefer it to be refillable. Basically, like the Thermapen of lighters if that makes any sense. Thanks!

I picked up a Scripto Aim'n'flame wind resistance lighter in desperation early this year.
So far it's been the best lighter I've ever had. It lights the first time, everytime. Even when It's been left outside in the rain.
The flame is a little jet flame instead of regular and it lights paper or starter cubes VERY quickly. $6 at ralphs.

It's not refillable though.

I'm kinda rough on stuff so I dont mind replacing the Bic ones if something happens.

On ebay there were some slick looking refilable cheap SS wand lighters that looked cool, a few years or so ago.

My favorite lighter is a propane torch like the bernzomatic auto.

There are some bad ass butane torches out there too but  I haven't tried any of them.

Thanks! I'd prefer a rigid neck but I won't rule this one out. It is also refillable.

I recently got one of these and love it! Lights every time. We got it in the 4 pack of misc scriptos from Costco. The scriptos last me forever and I'm rough with em, I usually prefer the bendy tip as it fits in the starter hole on my genesis better but the wind resistant flame shoots in there just fine.

@pbe gummi bear -Lawrence - why dink around with a POS stick lighter??

I got one of these on sale at Restaurant Depot for the same price with 3 extra butane cans almost 2 years ago and have used it dozens of times for lighting a stubborn Genesis, firing up A-Mazen-Tubes and Trays, caramelizing Creme Brulees or searing Sous Vided items to starting burn piles and I'm still on the first can of gas!

https://www.amazon.com/Chefmaster-Professional-Chefs-Torch-90014/dp/B001PHMV7W

Tons of different varieties and prices out there. I forgot how many BIC or cheapo stick lighters (including one of those fishing poles) that give up the ghost when you need them the most!
I cook on: Backwoods Gater, Lang 36, Hunsaker Smokers, Pellet Pro 22" WSM, BGE's, WSM's, Cajun Bandits, PK Grills, Drum Smokers, Genesis Silver C, Weber Q's, Cookshack 008, Little Chief, La Caja China #2, Lodge Sportsman...oh yeah! Weber Kettles! Kamado restoration and pit modification hack!
