Can anyone age this cooker?
« on: December 13, 2016, 09:12:12 AM »
I'm looking for a used WSM and came about one that I may be picking up. I was curious if anyone could give me an approximate age on this one? This is the only picture I was able to get up close on.

There should be a 2 digit code on the top vent.  That will tell you the year of manufacture.  Click on the link at the top of this page that says age guide.  That should give you all the info you need.

It's impossible to give an exact year without seeing the date stamp on the lid. I think that is an earlier wsm though given the flat top vent. The newer ones have creases between the holes. Good luck!

Actually, it looks like the newer vents are flat. I use then term new loosely due to the wooden handle. Lol.

@pbe gummi bear I noticed that about the vents too when I was trying to find some pics of older models. My 14.5 has the flat vent as well. It looks well used, but should clean up good.

So after picking it up it's in pretty good condition. But doesn't seem to have a code on the damper. I snapped a pic

Congrats on the pickup.  Was this the one listed in DC craigslist?

What about the bottom vent covers, any stamps down there?  Are the legs/door steel or aluminum?

Neil, yes it's the one from craigslist. I checked the bottom vents but nothing there either. The door has the diamond pattern, not sure if that means anything. I'm really not sure how to tell if they're aluminum or steel. I can post some more pics later if that will help. Can't wait to clean it up and have it ready for the country ham on Christmas!

You got one a great deal on that one! Looking forward to see more pics.  Hard to know the age, but the diamond door and flat vents would make it later then a C-code. Handle changed in 2000 so it's somewhere in that range. ???

From the listing the top looked like it was faded.  Was it just dusty?
