Jumbe Joe in Action / El Diablo Mesquite Charcoal
« on: April 01, 2013, 07:33:42 AM »
So we packed up the family and headed to sunny (80 deg +) Phoenix. Nice weather change from CO.

The jumbo joe is great because you can pack the small charcoal chimney inside it along with other toys: ET732, ....

Picked up some 100 % Mesquite Charcoal made in Mexico:

Fired up the old Jumbo Joe (aka Smokey Joe Platinum) for the first time. Lots of popping and crackling as it fired up.  ;D No airflow problems for grilling. Seasoned up some burgers with Plowboys bovine bold.  :)

Not sure you can see the smoke ?

Ron,  Sorry we could not share a beverage or a story.

Here's the Jumbo on the first shift of a party with friends.

A friend from Panama turned me on to a new one.  Those patties are ground seasoned pork.  They were awesome.

What have you got going on in the tray?
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

It was definitely Mesquite. I see why some say to not use it to smoke with it.  There were some large log pieces in the bag. So it was lump + mini logs.

I liked the flavor it produced. I will see if I still like it here at home.

$3.99 for a 7 lb bag of 100% mesquite charcoal at a grocery store was definitely worth a try.

My only regret was not buying some of the Santa Maria Seasoning at the Bashas (grocer) meat counter.

Forgot to mention the tray.  Sliced mushrooms, butter and garlic salt/pepper.

So easy and sooo good.  :)

I find mesquite overpowering for my taste, but I know cash and carry stores sell huge bags of Lazzari mesquite lump on the cheap if anyone's looking
Wanted plum/burgundy 18.5
