22.5 Stainless steal cooking grate
« on: July 25, 2016, 02:51:06 AM »
I'm trying to replace my old stainless steal cooking grate on my performer 22.5 grill this would be the 2nd time. I can't find the SS grill weber once made they make a SS coated or a 4 mil thick coating for $19.99 but I'm sure that's not the grate I'm looking for back in 2001 the SS grate was $29.00 and nothing goes down in price. Anyone know what I'm looking for or where to find it. Thanks

Thanks buddy, I have that bottom linked grate now it's part ss. Better than the all steal one. I'm not having any luck finding the all stainless grill at all. My guy at Ace hardware my weber store says they quit making that grill.

I don't think Weber makes it anymore and it is not available easily.

This thread reminded me it is on my list to order a couple of these.  I just called Weber and was able to order direct from them.  The price seems to have gone up, $65.00.

Amazon has one I just got that says it 4 mm stainless it is heavier than the steel one. So far so good it looks like the all stainless grill is gone for ever.

@mcgee10 -  Weber still makes a SS hinged grate for 22.5". I just ordered one in May.  The part number is #80728. You have to call Weber Customer Service as it is not listed on their website.  It was $72 delivered to California.  Reading reviews regarding the less expensive grates sold on Amazon, they have a tendency to rust.  Possibly made of a lower grade SS.

Here is a more recent thread discussing the SS Weber grate with pictures: http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/ss-cooking-grate-for-the-22'/msg222038/#msg222038

If I was going to spend that much I would go with the Craycort cast iron.  Am I wrong?

Yes and no.
Some folks do not like cast iron while others do.

The draw to the SS is the durability and lack of maintenance. CI will last a lifetime, but it tacks a lot of maintenance.
Still need a 22” yellow

There is no wrong.  What ever you like is right.

I like a single piece grate.  The GBS two piece grate drives me bonkers.

I would not be able to take the  (5 Peice?) Craycort, which I am sure is an otherwise very nice grate.

I like the one piece (hinges ok) Weber nickel plated grates.  I've purchased the SS Weber Hinged for durability.  Hopefully I will like it as well as the plated.

Honestly, keeping my plated grate well oiled, I don't think there will ever be a corrosion issue.

I did buy extra SS grates for some grill I'm giving away.  I can't presume those folks will take care of them as I do.

i have 2 of the Weber SS grates.  i got one in 2010 for $24 and the second one in 2012 for $29.  They hold up well and are my favorites right up their with my Weber 2 piece CI grate.
