First cook using the roti kit on the Jumbo Joe.
« on: April 08, 2016, 04:18:24 PM »
So since I bought this roti ring from Amazon at $66, I thought why not give it a spin.

Setup; I loaded two banked baskets of Kingsford only using approx. 15 lit coals each along with a couple chunks of apple wood. Put a small meatloaf pan covered with foil for a drip pan.

Chicken seasoned and injected with a homemade creole butter seasoning. On the roti and ready to roll.

Maintained a temp near 275 throughout with the bottom vent completely closed. Periodically I opened the bottom vent when the temp started to drop some.

I added a couple coals to each side 20 minutes into the cook.

After one hour cooking the bird has a nice color and looking good at this point.

Removed from the kettle at 1:20 and now lets see what we have

Ahhh yes! Nice and full of juice. I'm quite pleased with this $66 roti kit and I highly recommend getting this while it's on sale on Amazon.

That chicken looks fantastic. Is that the rotisserie kit made by Onlyfire? Their kit for the 22 inch is only $70

Looks beauty to me. Did you get crispy skin? Or was it just approaching crispy? Doing roti cooks on my 22 I have only gotten close to crispy myself.

I would say approaching crispy, but not chewy. The skin breaks away nicely when you bite into it. I was very very pleased with the results.

Porcelain enameled. Here's the link to the 22 inch version on Amazon.

The kit is very solid! The ring is almost identical to the Weber. It also fit nicely inside the lower bowl of the kettle. The kit comes with 3 tabs, but not needed with the JJ.
