Weber won't warrantee my fireplace
« on: March 09, 2016, 12:54:19 PM »
I just saw a thread about cracking on the porcelain on someone's Performer and another kettle.
Weber replaced their kettles.

I have the same cracking on the bottom of my Weber fireplace, so I thought I would contact Weber.
I sent them photos etc.

Weber said they would not warrantee mine as fireplaces only have a 2 year warrantee.

I asked why fireplaces are only 2 years when some kettles are 10 years?
Weber said they were sorry that they could not answer why.

Oh well, it was worth a try.

:(

I bet it has to do with the fire/coals being directly on the porcelain rather than on a grate. Probably puts a lot more stress on the materials.

I believe what you have is crazing, not cracking.  Burn a lot of fires, and that's what happens.  Maybe I'm wrong.

At the price you paid for it, used, then you will just have to live with it.  Nobody will see it..
Q: How do you know something is bull$h!t?
A: When you are not allowed to question it.

Keep it hot and if anyone some "SMART ASS" notices it tell them it has more on the bottom they should pick it up and take a look ;D
Wife said "No more GRILLS in this house!" So I bought a 2nd house!

I haven't used my fireplace yet, but I understand some folks fill the bottom part way with sand to keep the wood off the porcelain surface.

I purchased a charcoal grate from a 26" to use in my fireplace.
That way it lifts the fire off the bowl and I can use smaller 2 hours fire-logs in it.
The charcoal grate sits about 3" below the lip.

I use 2 lbs of black aquarium sand in the bottom as well.

Bought mine used and it didn't come with the manual. Thanks for that info, I had no idea.

That's expensive sand for that application.
Still need a 22” yellow
